Autumn on Jersey is so beautiful that you could simply visit at this time of year and do nothing but stroll along the stunning beaches or enjoy the amazing views. However, if you did want to do something more, there is plenty of choice; autumn on Jersey has something for everyone, no matter what you like to do. Here are some of the best events to look out for if you’re going to be visiting this incredible island over the next few months.
The Jersey Rally – 12-13 October 2018
First held over 80 years ago, the Jersey Rally is always a highlight of the events calendar on the island. It’s a tough route that take a lot of skill to negotiate (and navigate), and that fact it is spread out over two days just goes to show how gruelling it really is. Spectators line the roads and enjoy the spectacle and it is always hugely exciting.
La Faîs’sie d’Cidre – 20-21 October 2018
If you enjoy cider then this is certainly the event for you this autumn. Jersey is famed for its cider production, and this annual festival gives everyone the chance to enjoy some of the produce, and to see how it is all done. As well as cider tasting (and the chance to buy some to take home) there will be live music and entertainment and activities for adults and children to take part in.
Festival of Words – 26-30 October 2018
Every year this five-day literary festival is a big draw for locals and visitors alike. This is where writers and poets can come together to read their work aloud for an appreciative audience, for example, and they come from all around the world to do just that. Of particular interest, though, is the historical element – Jersey’s literary roots can be traced right back to the poet Wace who was born on Jersey in the 12th century.
Not only are their readings, but authors put together performances and workshops too for all ages, plus there are competitions to enter for any budding wordsmith.
Tennerfest – 1-11 November 2018
Ideal for foodies or those who are watching their budgets (or both!), Tennerfest is an amazing way to try out some of Jersey’s world-renowned restaurants from just £10. That tenner will get you a chance to order from a specially designed, all-inclusive menu that means you can have your choice of restaurants because money will no longer be a consideration.
£10 is the starting point, and some restaurants will charge more – up to as much as £20 in some cases – but this still gives you plenty of choice and there are some amazing deals to be had. Plus, Tennerfest spreads further than Jersey, and you can find it happening on Guernsey now too.
