Christmas in Jersey

christmas in jersey

Christmas is a magical time of the year no matter what your age. It just feels as though people are nicer, the world is calmer, and there is a buzz of excitement in the air from the middle of November onwards. The same is true if you choose to enjoy Christmas on Jersey. This Channel Island really knows how to celebrate, and here are some of the ways it does it.

Late Night Shopping

If you want to do your Christmas shopping somewhere beautiful and festive, Jersey is a great choice. Starting from 22nd November until Christmas Eve, many of the shops on the island will stay open later, giving you even more chance to shop and find the ideal unique, stunning gifts for loved ones. Trading hours are usually limited on Jersey, so the fact that shops are open until 9pm on Thursdays and 5pm on Sundays is extremely useful.

Not only that, but the Central and Beresford markets will also extend their opening hours on Thursday and Sundays in December.

The Christmas Markets

As mentioned above, some of the markets on Jersey are going to be staying open later during the festive period. But don’t forget there are Christmas markets that also pop up at this time of year. They are located all around the island, so no matter where you are or what else you’re doing, you should be able to find the time to drop by one and enjoy some Christmassy fun.

Perfect for Families

Jersey is an ideal place for families all year round, but at Christmas it’s even better – there is so much to do. Of course, there is the traditional Christmas panto which takes place at the Jersey Opera House, and Father Christmas will make a number of appearances around the island in his grottos.

If you want to do something different that is pure Jersey fun, why not join in with the iconic Christmas Day swims? These take place early in the morning on the big day, so you can go and have some bracing fun and then go back home and celebrate Christmas.

The Christmas Battle of Flowers Parade

The Christmas Battle of Flowers Parade is an annual event that is a true spectacle. You’ll see many different floats parading through the streets of St Helier covered in stunning decorations and, of course, some lovely Christmas lights. This year, it’s taking place on 8th December, and for many it’s when Christmas really starts.
